About the Course:

The objectives of the seminar are to educate appraisers about:

The most common sources and causes of professional negligence lawsuits against appraisers.

The relationship between the USPAP concepts of client/intended user and who can sue an appraiser for negligence.

· The danger areas of appraising with respect to potential liability.

· What appraisers can do to minimize liability risk (the emphasis is on the need for better and clearer disclosure, not disclaimer language).

· How to deal with common liability threat situations.

· The progress of a typical appraiser liability lawsuit, and the most common claims and defenses.

· The importance of the appraiser’s work file and what elements of the work file are most relevant to liability prevention.

· The role of professional liability insurance.

Peter Christensen’s presentation of this seminar is sponsored by the Appraisal Institute’s endorsed E&O program managed by LIA Administrators & Insurance Services. Appraisers who complete this course and who are insured by LIA become eligible for a discount on their E&O premium applied to their next renewal. In North Dakota, the E&O discount is $70 if the per claim limit of your policy is $500,000 or above, or $40 if the claim limit is lower. Please check with LIA if you have questions about your applicable E&O discount. Appraisers who join LIA’s E&O program also will receive the discount.

This seminar is approved for 7 CE hours (Appraisal) in ND, SD, and MN and (Real Estate) in ND.
